Papeete Port Approach

  • Papeete port is located at 17°32'S and 149°35'W. Pass is indicated by two lighted buoys (Red left returning). Alignment is marked by two green occulting range lights mounted on red and white towers and oriented at 149°. Current normally sets outward and can be dangerous for small yachts with heavy North swell. Contact Port control before entering the pass on VHF channel 12 or SSB 2638 Khz.
  • Boats with riggings higher than 6m must request authorization to Port Control on VHF channel 12 half hour before entering airport lagoon channel on both sides.
  • Pilotage is compulsory in Papeete harbor over 40m and in all Society islands and Rangiroa over 90m
  • The use of line men is compulsory.
  • The use of tug boats is compulsory over 3.000 Cbm ( Length x beam x max draft).
  • All yachts entering Papeete harbor must fly the yellow flag. Clearance must be requested within 48 hours of arrival (weekends excluded). Yachts using TAHITI OCEAN for clearance can proceed direct to Marina Taina on arrival in Tahiti.

Dockage

  • Papeete yacht quay and bounty docks are suitable for yachts under 100'. Mooring is made stern to with anchors - Depth 3 to 15m. Water and electricity (20 Amps plugs - 220V - 60Hz) are available. The quay has been refurbished in 1997 and offers a convenient access down town. It is however located on a busy sea front road and is noisy, polluted and rather unsafe.   • Papeete down town dock has been recently refurbished to provide more dock space for cruise ships with 2 fingers 200m long each. Alongside docking only is allowed, against strong and large black rubber fenders. Water and electricity are available. This quay provides a convenient occasional berth in the midst of Papeete down town. Tariff: 30-40m: Usd 90/day; 40-50m: Usd 130/day; 50-60m: Usd 180/day; 60-70m: Usd 240/day. Contact Port captain. Dry Docking

  • Papeete port slipway can accept yachts up to 350 tons, 60m in length and 4m in draft.
  • Technimarine, located on West jetty of Papeete harbor, has a 70 tons travelift and repair facilities.
  • The navy shipyard has a floating drydock with 3.800 ton capacity. Tariff is very high but urgent repairs can be done.
