Luxury yacht charter regulation in French Polynesia

(revised 05/2007)

A license called "Grande Plaisance" must be obtained to charter your yacht in French Polynesian waters.

Current Conditions to obtain license

  • Yacht value over Usd 1 million
  • Charter tariffs over Usd 2.000 per day
  • Permanent professional crew of 3 and over
  • Yacht must be allowed for charter under her current flag regulation

Current taxes

  • The licence is free. Allow 4/6 weeks for processing.
  • Customs taxes are paid on the gross charter fees before each departure.
  • Taxes are 12% of the gross charter fees.

Important information

  • Charter licences are granted for a duration of six month, to be renewed.
  • Charter yachts are not allowed to benefit from duty free fuel while cruising the islands.
  • Charter yachts intending to stay longer than 3 months must request long stay visas for the whole crew (application for these visas are made at French Consulates in the country of origin at least 4/5 months before arrival)
